“The penalties for the use, trafficking, smuggling and possession of drugs (even residual quantities) are severe,”the Qatari government’s website warned.

The World Cup will be played in Qatar from November 21, 2022 until December 18 of the same year. For this event, the most important of the most popular sport in the world, people from 32 countries on 5 continents will arrive.

Despite the openness that the event means to get to know this culture, the leaders of the emirate have been clear with the little tolerance with anyone who violates their moral and religious laws.

One of the sensitive issues, if one takes into account that for the World Cup in Russia 2018 attended about 3 million people, is the consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

According to England’sDaily Mail, the Law on the Control and Regulation of Narcotic Drugs and Dangerous Psychotropic Substances indicates that if someone wanted to try to smuggle drugs into Qatar and is caught, they could face up to 20 years in prison and fines between $26,000 and $80,000.

A call for attention was also made to the attendees, since drug residues will also be punished with the aforementioned penalties.

Those penalties reach those who did it for the first time. But for those who are repeat offenders (count crimes committed outside Qatar) they could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The World Cup organization reported that: “If you need to bring controlled or prescription medicines to Qatar, be sure to bring your doctor’s official prescription, hospital note or a letter from your GP detailing the medicine, the amount prescribed and the dosage.”
