Cannabis extracts could reduce the risk of coronavirus, study says

Scientists in Canada are studying the potential benefits of cannabis against COVID-19

Cannabis extracts have been shown to give the body resistance against the new COVID-19, according to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Lethbridge.

Canadian scientists analyzed approximately 400 cannabis strains from which they chose just 12 that performed better against the virus to settle in the human body.

“A number of them reduced the number of virus receptors by 73%. If we can reduce receptors, there would be much lower chance of infection,” said Dr. Igor Kovalchuk.

Scientists have emphasized that these findings would not necessarily lead to the creation of a vaccine, but it is important to have tools to combat COVID-19.

Canadian researchers did not identify whether it is THC or CBD compounds that may have less or better effect. However, the group of scientists is interested in using high CBD varieties for their higher anti-inflammatory property.

“We have focused on mayor CBD because people can endure high doses without causing physical alterations in patients.”

The study conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Health seeks to find ways to reduce the high spread of this virus in the intestines, lungs and gums. If successful, 3-D la infectious reduction would be studied in human tissue as a medical option in inhalers, mouth wash, and others.

“Our work could have a great influence. There aren’t many pharmaceutical options that have infectious potential of 70-80%,”  Kovalchuck said.

Another study of this type was announced in Israel where they began treating patients with the virus with the aim of repairing cells damaged by COVID-19 using anti-inflammatory properties.
