Cannabis use falls among teenagers in Canada

Compartir:

The use of cannabis among people between 15 and 17 years old declined in Canada since legalization.

In 2018, the North American country became the first G-8 country to allow sales, distribution and consumption at the federal level.

Statistics Canada, a national data organization, has just published the data of the surveys carried out in the process of data collection after legalization.

The investigation was conducted for 3 months and despite its limitations it provides interesting data.

Reduction of consumption in young people

One year after the legalization more than 5.1 million Canadians over 15 years of age or older say the consumed cannabis during the last three months.

Statistically, cannabis use increased from 2018 to 2019 in people over 25 according to the results. However, consumption decreased in young people aged 14 to 17 years from 19.8% to 10.4%.

Regular consumption increased from 5.9% to 6%.

According to the survey, about 29.4% of cannabis users claim to have accessed legal sources. Some reasons are due to the difficulty of access in some cities. However, 52% of consumers bought at least once from some legal source.
