Italy: medical cannabis is now free in Sicily for certain diseases

Compartir:

Medical cannabis will be delivered free of charge in the region of Sicily, according to a decree signed at the end of January by the head of the health department Ruggero Razza.

The government will pay the cannabis for people who suffer from chronic pain, brain spasms and multiple sclerosis.

Medical cannabis has been legal in Italy since 2013, however, it is the first time it will be distributed for free. The requirements are simple: have a medical prescription and obtain authorization to access the substance through a lawful source.

At the moment, the suppliers are the Italian army and imports who sell through licensed pharmacies.

The illegal sale of cannabis remains a crime in Italy. However, a Court of Cassation determined that the cultivation for personal and few plants will not be punished in the country.
