Legal CBD is now available in pharmacies across Costa Rica

The first nutritional oils with hemp extract (CBD) are now available in pharmacies and different retail stores throughout Costa Rica.

These are the first products of a Costa Rican brand called “Osmosis CBD” that had its official launch on May 17. According to the legal representatives of the brand, the product is already located throughout the country.

“It’s been a difficult road, but this is a sign that Costa Rica is moving forward. We are happy to be able to legally sell these kinds of products for the benefit and well-being of thousands of people”, says Andrés Calvo, head of the legal department.

MCN confirmed that these products are already being sold in at least 30 pharmacies in the country.

Cannabidiol (CBD), is one of the main molecules known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. This molecule is non-psychoactive and has different nutritional and therapeutic benefits recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Over the past few years, cannabis and hemp products have been gaining immense popularity among the population of different ages. A vast amount of people are looking for these products because of their ability to generate therapeutic or nutritional effects.

Cannabis use in the country is not penalized, however, comercialization and planting can lead to major legal problems. As well as the sale of CBD without health registration.

“Our goal has always been to give people knowledge and now legal access to a product that is sold without controls in the country. We hope that many people who do not have access to these products can benefit their health through legal distribution pathways,” the press release says.

The products that are already comercialized in different parts of the country are the only ones that have the health register (“registro sanitario”, in Spanish) of the Ministry of Health of Costa Rica. This occured after at least 5 years of intense debate about the use of derivatives of the cannabis and hemp plant.

According to Osmosis CBD’s press release, its products have a sanitary register, laboratory analysis that ensures that it is a product free of pesticides or heavy metals and also guarantees that the amount of CBD indicated on the label is correct.

These nutritional supplements in oil form also contain other ingredients such as turmeric and ginger known for their beneficial properties.
