A new study published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research suggests that the use of cannabidiol (CBD) is not only safe long term or but may also have an impact on increased longevity.

The study aimed at researching the toxicity and long-term effects of CBD was studied in a type of worm known as Caenorhabditis elegans in vivo models.

CBD: the powers of its longevity

Scientists who used worms with a lifespan of between two and three weeks may have noticed that by supplying them with CBD, these animals were shown to be longer-lived by an average of 18.3% in their normal life and in old age by up to 200%.

Although worms are not invertebrates equal to humans, scientific research has found that this species shares up to 80% certain similarities for example in its digestive, reproductive, endocrine, and neuromuscular system.

Tests found no evidence of mortality at any of the doses tested. But if an adverse effect was evident in dosages toltas in terms of mobility. "A dose 10 times outside of relevant psychological concentrations."

In their average-of-life exposure, where high doses were used, no effect on mortality was shown. No change was evident in this regard. Even at doses equivalent to "low or moderate doses” in humans, CBD effectively dimted deterioration in different age-related activities.

"As they got older, they moved like young animals," said Hunter Land, director of scientist at Canopy Growth. "Instead of seeing something toxic, we see the opposite, rather it increases health parameters."

Researchers suggest that such research is important for defining the safety of the use of CBD products in the public.

"These results were obtained from long-term exposure that gives us information on a live model of animals todate, and the absence of long-term toxicity gives us evidence that the industry needs to continue researching the medical potential of CBD application," he concluded.
