Three African elephants will be treated with cannabidiol (CBD) as part of an innovative pilot project that will analyze whether this cannabis compound manages to reduce its stress levels.
Previously, MCN has reported on how the famous molecule is able to help other animals such as dogs or horses. However, this is the first time such a study has been created in elephants.
“This is an attempt to find new natural alternatives to existing methods to combat stress, especially pharmaceutical Warsaw drugs,” said Agnieszka Czujkowska who is one of the leading researchers at Warsaw Zoo in Poland.

“Contrary to what people think, elephants won’t use cannabis pipes or large barrels of the compound,” she said.
Initial doses will be measured by the weight ofthe elephants. Other models of veterinary CBD use will also be replicated two or three times a day.
