CBD or cannabidiol is one of the 113 discovered cannabinoids in the cannabis plant and accounts for up to 40% of the plant’s extract. We’re keeping you updated with the latest CBD research, and here’s a brief summary of some of the most significant ones.

1. Reduces the Risk of Cancer

According to the study from 1996, CBD can decrease the risk of hepatic and benign adenoma tumors. Another study from 2012 proves that animals treated with CBD have a lower risk of developing colon cancer after being induced with carcinogens in a laboratory.

In 2015, scientists analyzed medical records of more than 84,000 male patients and discovered that those who regularly used cannabis (not combined with tobacco) had a 45% lower risk of developing bladder cancer. CBD contributed greatly to those results.

2. Reduces the Risk of Diabetes and Obesity

Several studies have already found a connection between cannabis use and lower mass index, which leads to a reduced risk of developing diabetes and obesity. According to the 2011 report that included more than 52,000 participants cannabis users are less likely to become obese.

Another study from 2006 that explored the effects of CBD discovered a connection between CBD and lower incidence of diabetes in lab rats. That is due to the role that CBD has in keeping our bodies in shape by better converting white fat into weight-reducing brown fat.

3. Reduces the Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases

According to the results of the study conducted in 2013 that included data from 4,652 participants, cannabis users have higher levels of good cholesterol that can be found in our blood. The good cholesterol is responsible for lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The study from 2005 discovered that CBD could slow down the progression of atherosclerosis, while another study from 2007 that researched the effects of CBD on animals, proved that CBD had cardioprotective effects during heart attacks.

4. Reduces the Risk of Depression and Mood Swings

Depression is one of the most difficult mental disorders that is characterized by the loss of interest and persistent sadness. If left untreated, it can lead to decreased appetite, low energy and suicidal thoughts. There are some medical treatments available, but most of them come with a long line of adverse effects.

The study conducted in 2016 proves that CBD has the potential to replace all antidepressant drugs due to its ability to enhance both glutamate and serotonergic signaling, in turn, helping the person fight depression better. All this with few negative side effects.

The Bottom Line

More research is still needed to discover the full potential of CBD as well as any adverse effects that might affect our body after long-term use, but what we have learned so far is very promising. CBD has the potential to be one of the most important medical discoveries to date due to its health benefits and lack of any negative side effects. That is especially true in situations where modern medicine continues to fail us.

That said, CBD use should not be taken lightly because there is always a possibility of adverse effects in some people. Always consult a doctor, especially if you have already undergone medical treatment.
