THC compounds were effective in a study against post-traumatic stress syndrome and its influence on the brain activities that generate it.
According to scientific researchers, THC was able to decrease the reactivity of the amygdala. The latter is a gland whose brain structure plays a very important role in the way we process emotional responses. Such as: fear, anxiety, and aggression.
“These preliminary data suggest that THC is capable ofmulating the traumatic activity of the individuals suffered by TEPT, which could be advantageous for a pharmacological approach,” the study says.
The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Detroit in the United States, with 71 participants. They form 3 groups of unexposed or non-CSD adults and 19 people diagnosed with ptSD. Both received placebos and THC to complete a rigorous well-established threat processing paradigm during functional magnetic resonance imaging.
