President of Costa Rica announces that he will promote the cultivation of hemp to revive the economy

This Monday during his work report, President Carlos Alvarado reported that the government will promote hemp cultivation as a strategy to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

“We will promote the cultivation of hemp to reactivate the productive sector, with all the guarantees and security of the case. We will use all the prestige derived from the country, in life sciences and tourism to take off again in all regions, “said the president.

Hemp is a variety of cannabis plants that is used as an industrial and food crop. From this plant you can get construction products, ropes, clothing, cosmetics, food products, among others.

Currently, a company and builds houses with this type of materials. These varieties contain less amount of the component Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and make different uses.

This is one of the strategies that the central government seeks to support to face the strong economic crisis. The country expects a -3.6% drop.
